An academic would reach out to the media with findings published in a new paper. But are there ways to forge deeper relationships and bring researchers into the reporting process? Is there a way for journalists to shape research questions to quantify anecdotes they encounter in their reporting? What do journalists bring to the table for academics and vice versa?

Through discussion and activities we’ll envision new relationships between research teams, journalists, and the public. We’ll all talk about our experiences with these types of collaborations, what has and hasn’t worked, and how we might upend the the traditional one-way flows from research -> journalism -> public.
